HIGH-EFFICIENCY BOILER REPAIR AND REPLACEMENTS

If you are concerned about your energy costs and being environmentally friendly, a high-efficiency boiler system may be the best choice for your home. High-efficiency boilers use much less energy than traditional boilers. In fact, all high-efficiency boilers have an annual fuel efficiency utilization of over 90 percent. This means that they only use about 10 percent or less of the actual energy. Which means more savings for you, and a smaller carbon footprint for the Earth.

Traditional boilers can have efficiency ratings as low as 60 percent.

They waste about 40 percent of the total energy they consume. This means that such a traditional boiler would need to work 1.5 times harder to produce the same amount of usable heat. If your home is utilizing this type of boiler, then an upgrade to a new high-efficiency boiler is the recommended choice.

If the cost of a high-efficiency boiler seems daunting, no need to stress!  We offer our clients financing options that will allow you the freedom to choose a high efficiency boiler system and start saving on your energy bill. If you decide that a high-efficiency boiler is the choice for your home, give us a call!

How a Hot Water Boiler Works

Gone are the days when you needed to rely on wood furnaces to heat your home. Thanks to today’s boiler technology, your boiler can now become the veritable heart of your home’s central heating system.

A natural gas boiler, for example, can be connected directly to the gas mains in your home to get a constant supply of fuel whenever it needs. When it’s being used, a special type of valve that is connected to your boiler opens and gas enters the chamber. Then, an electric ignition system – or permanent pilot light, in some cases – ignites to burn the fuel, thus providing your home with heat and hot water at the same time. This is far more efficient than a traditional old style indoor wood furnace or indoor wood boiler.

Also available are combi boilers, like those available from Navien. Here, your boiler  will be able to both heat your home and provide hot water without the need for additional tanks of any kind. These actually have not one but two heat exchangers. The first is connected to your home’s hot water supply, and the second is connected to your radiators. The benefit here is that combi boilers are essentially in a permanent “standby mode,” allowing them to provide a constant stream of hot water whenever you’d like.

Generally speaking, there are a few different types of boiler water heater systems manufactures for you to choose from depending on your needs. These include peerless boilers, gas boilers, steam boilers (also called steam heaters), a condensing boiler and more.

Navien is just one example of a company that provides high quality combi boilers. A Lochinvar  boiler is also a viable option, as they offer high-efficiency condensing boilers, gas boilers, steam boiler options, natural gas boiler options and more for both residential and commercial purposes.

What Sets Navien Apart

One example of a company that is gaining popularity with its central boiler products is Navien. The company’s NHB, and particularly their new NFB-H series, are high efficiency condensing boilers that are ideal for just about every residential application you can think of.

For starters, they’re much more energy-efficient than old-fashioned boiler systems – meaning that you begin saving money on your monthly utility bills almost immediately. In fact, they offer the highest energy efficiency in the industry – up to 95% AFUE by most estimates.

That last number is particularly important, as according to one recent boiler  study, 95% AFUE qualifies homeowners for valuable state and local rebates in select areas. This means that, just by virtue of the fact that you’re purchasing this type of boiler heater, you could save even more money right away.

Navien boilers are long lasting boilers, allowing you to continue to enjoy this same level of savings for years to come. In addition to offering a sophisticated appearance, they also improve the resale value of your home.

The Navien Combi Boiler NCB-H Series offers space heating up to 150,000 BTU per hour, with domestic hot water up to 210,000 BTU per hour. The Navien Combi Boiler NFC-H Series takes things one step further, offering space heating up to 199,900 BTU per hour and domestic hot water at 210,000 BTU per hour.

When you also consider the fact that they take up about 80% less space than traditional floor standing boilers, while also being backed by the industry’s strongest warranty, it’s easy to see why the company has made such a big impression on homeowners over the last few years.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Boiler Installation

What are the different types of boilers available?

There are a few different types of boilers for you to choose from depending on your needs. One of the most common is called a Combi Boiler, which offers a water heater and a central heating system in one unit. This prevents you from needing to install an external water tank, which can be a great way to save even more floor space in your home.

System heaters, also commonly referred to as  a boiler heating system, will require an external water tank. Finally, there are propane boiler, oil boiler water & steam boiler options for you to choose from. needing to install an external water tank, which can be a great way to save even more floor space in your home.

What is the best way to choose a boiler brand that fits my needs?

As is true with most products, all brands tend to have their unique advantages and disadvantages – meaning that there isn’t really a “one size fits all” approach to making this decision. You’ll want to read reviews and go with a brand that has a reputation you trust. You’ll also want to find boilers that have the types of features that matter to you. Navien boilers include optional NaviLink Wi-Fi control technology, for example, which lets you control your boiler from any device on Earth with an active Internet connection.

How often will I need to replace my boiler moving forward?

Generally speaking, the average amount of time your boiler will last will be between 10 to 15 years – although this will obviously vary depending on a wide range of different factors. Sometimes, if you think the new boiler cost is too expensive, you can get away with just replacing specific parts – like the circulator pump for boiler equipment. Other times, you can get boiler service by simply searching “boiler service near me” and find a professional to diagnose any problem. Before you do that, however, check with your manufacturer’s warranty to see what they might be willing to do. A Navien boiler will be backed by the industry’s strongest warranty, including 10 years on all heat exchangers.

The Pros and Cons of a New Boiler Replacement: Combi Boilers

Pro: Combi boilers are great for homes with limited space.

Thanks to the fact that they offer a relatively small footprint and heat water on demand, combi boilers are perfect for smaller homes or environments that are working with limited space. They also tend to be far less complicated than traditional heating systems, which usually translates into less expensive installation costs.

Pro: Combi boilers are less likely to deal with problems like pressure issues than their alternatives.

Thanks to their unique design, combi boilers, like those available from Navien, don’t require you to deal with air locks, low pressure or any of the other problems that competing technologies may. All of this is because hot water is drawn directly from the water mains in your home.

Con: The success of a combi boiler is largely dependent on the quality of the water coming into in your home.

Because of the way they work, you need quality water water coming out of the mains in your home at all times. This means there may actually be some additional work you need done in your home before you can have a combi boiler installed – we recommend always adding a high quality water filter to the incoming water to prolong the life of your plumbing system and the heat exchanger of your new high efficient tankless heating system.
